Eddie Lanieri is an artist and educator working primarily in photography. She received her M.F.A. in Studio Art from Florida State University and an undergraduate degree in Archaeology/Bioarchaeology from Arizona State University. Her passion for photography began with a Polaroid camera and a school field trip in eighth grade.

Lanieri’s work centers on grief and sorrow. She draws on photography’s capacity to isolate, archive, and reorganize time to explore how connections to memory are disrupted or severed and then reconstructed through longing as a means of coping with loss. Her practice combines traditional darkroom techniques with alternative photographic processes to create uniquely textured, one-of-a-kind photographs. Often, she physically intervenes in the photographic surface through scratching, transferring, or subjecting the prints to chemical instability. These acts blur the line between photograph and artifact, leaving visible traces of both the image and the process of its becoming.

Her work has been recognized by the 2024 Platforms Fund Research Grant and the Puffin Foundation Award. She is a Salzburg Global Seminar fellow and has exhibited with institutions including the Lucie Foundation, Center for Fine Art Photography, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Contemporary Arts Center of New Orleans, Lowe Museum of Art, Goldsmiths College, and the Kinsey Institute. Her work is held in both private and public collections and has received support from the Mellon Foundation and the Louisiana Division of the Arts. Her photographs have also been presented in academic and public forums throughout the American South, including SECAC.
